AF447 Black Box Location Pin-pointed within 5km

French radio RTL reports that the French Navy has located an area of 5x5km within which the flight data recorders of Air France flight 447 must be located.
The news was confirmed by the French Department of Defense.
This news comes following the launch of extended search for recovery of recorders on 4th May.
As the news suggests, it appears that the area has been located using miniature submarines.
Some news media such as ABC and BBC report that the blackbox has been ‘found’ – but this is incorrect and rather misleading as a predicted area has only been localised.
Notice that this is still only a research calculation and the blackbox might not be found as well.
Although the recorders could have been damaged, it is likely that the data might be recoverable given the aircraft was fairly new and possibly had digital recorders.
