It is reported that the aircraft had a go around and tried to land in Runway 09 although this is unconfirmed. Runway 09 at Tripoli reportedly only has VOR and NDB compared to Runway 27 with ILS support.
The authorities have been able to discover the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder of the aircraft. A cause for the incident was not immediately clear.
This incident seems to be quite similar to the Korean Air 803 incident in which the aircraft crashed short in approach to Tripoli in 1989. Although there is no confirmation that this aircraft crashed short of runway.

Let’s get to the bottom of it why it happened. I see many discrepancies in what should have been a normal crash from 200 meters.
Do it for the sole survivor who will be a victim the rest of his life.
Ruben or Robin,
At a time where we are saddened by this very tragic incident, and where i personally am very worried indeed that this will not be the last incident that will occur unless the international airline and civil aviation take drastic measures in improving regulations on both the management of Tripoli Int airport, as it’s undergoing a major face lift to its old structure, and construction work severely puts air-crafts both taking off and landing in grieve danger. Never allow runway 9 to be ever used again for very early morning landings. And ILS systems fail from time to time, why……..?
