Air Zimbabwe Fires All Pilots

Air Zimbabwe ( IATA: UM ) has fired all of its 40 pilots today, after its pilots went on strike asking for cut back allowances.
The pilots state that their allowance was cut back to USD1200 from USD2500 in February 2009. They further state that the airline has no right to fire them, although the management states that going on strike itself makes it legible to fire them.
The airline reportedly is losing USD500,000 per day due to the strike.
The airline’s fleet remains grounded due to this issue and the airline had announced that they will be wet leasing aircraft from AirQuarius Aviation, a South African operator with a Fokker F70 – which used to operate flights into Baghdad when other airlines refused -, for short term.
