Facts and Details of the Trans States MRJ order

The Trans States Holdings LOI for 100 Mitsubishi Regional Jets announced today is not only the largest order for the MRJ so far but also probably the largest aircraft order of this year.
What are the other key facts of this order ? Here’s a quick run down.

Trans States orders 100 MRJ Mitsubishi Regional Jet aircraft

* The order is for 50 firm and 50 options and for all three variants of the MRJ, however the exact number of orders for different types is not clear. Deliveries will begin in 2014.

* Trans States Holdings is based in St. Louis, Missouri and operates feeder services for United Airlines and US Airways under the Trans States Airlines brand. It also owns the GoJet, another feeder carrier.

* The order represents the US commercial launch of the Pratt and Whiteney PW1000G turbofan as well as the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics platform.

* The MRJ models earlier had been planned with a composite wing, but this way changed into an aluminium wing three weeks ago.

* The only other order for the MRJ family is from ANA, for 15 firm and 10 options.

MRJ 90STD will have a 39,600kg MTOW and a 1,610km range while the MRJ 90LR will have a MTOW of 42,800kg and a 3,280km range.

This order signifies a major breakthrough for the new RJ manufacturer and can be considered an event on par as Airbus’s breakthrough into the US market in 1986 with an order from Northwest Airlines.
