Oman Air shelves Colombo launch
Oman Air has shelved its plan to launch Colombo flights following consecutive denying of approval from the Sri Lankan authorities. This change was reflected in Global Distribution Systems today. Oman Air had originally planned to launch daily flights to Colombo from its Muscat base on 12 October. The airline was forced to postpone its launch twice following last minute withdrawal of approval from Sri Lankan authorities. Oman Air CEO is Peter Hill with whom the Sri Lankan President had a dispute following Hill’s refusal to offload 35 passengers on a LHR-CMB flight, to accommodate the President and his entourage ( at which time Hill was SriLankan Airlines’ CEO ). Oman Air is in a heavy expansion drive under Hill’s leadership.
UPDATE : It is reported that the Omani authorities have now banned SriLankan Airlines from landing in Muscat. This has not yet been confirmed, however SriLankan’s flight to Muscat yesterday operated as normal.

School boy mentality is at it again………….there’s no logic, business sense or love for the country here, it’s that nonsensical ‘who cares’ attitude that we see in the country’s international policy too. Well, it doesn’t cost much for the Middle East boys to hit back at the SL types on all fronts……… send our maids back……… cancel other UL flights to the ME……perhaps not allow overfly clearances etc. It may not be too far away, but will our clowns understand that? Afterall it’s a fact that the Arabs have long preferred the white man to the Asian even when the later has shown that he is more capable and cost less – that’s another story.
Agree, hands down. Same can be said about things at UL, more or less.
