Paris CDG Could Run Out of Fuel by Weekend
Employees of French fuel supplier Trapil, on 15th Oct closed down major fuel pipelines to Paris Airports – among others, in protest of plans to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62.
A number of fuel refineries have been closed and protestors were clashing with riot Police who were trying to reopen the fuel lines.
Trapil stated to AFP that the Paris Orly airport has reserve fuel for 17 days while Paris Charles De Gaulle ( CDG ) had fuel only sufficient for the weekend.
A potential fuel starvation at CDG, if takes place, will largely threaten long haul flights which will need to either cancel or refuel at an alternative airport.
The progress of the situation was not clear and the airport was not immediately available for comment.
President Nicolas Sarkozy’s government has vowed to press ahead with the reform plans.
