Airports

The following is a list of presently active airports in Sri Lanka. This page is currently under construction with more information due to be added.

 

Colombo Bandaranaike Airport, CMB.

Sri Lanka’s main international airport handling 30 airlines. Hub for SriLankan, Mihin Lanka and Expo Aviation. Has a 3350m runway and a modern terminal of 12 air0bridges with annual capacity for 6m passengers. The construction of a second runway and expanding passenger capacity due to start shortly.

 

Colombo City, RML

The old airport of the city of Colombo, presently serving as a domestic airport.

 

Koggala, KCT

A domestic airport now served exclusively by SriLankan AirTaxi. At one time the airport was part of QANTAS flying-boat services and hosted the world’s longest nonstop flight ( PER – KCT ) for some time.

 

Jaffna, JAF

Sri Lanka’s northern-most airport. Was once an international airport prior to the surge of terrorism in 1980s.

Trincomalee, TRR

Popularly known as the China Bay airport, because of its close proximity to one of the world’s rarest natural harbors, this now domestic airport once was a hub for Indian Air Force Il-76s.

 

Bentota, BJT

Located in Southern Sri Lanka.

 

Nuwara Eliya, NUA

Located in picturesque hill country of Sri Lanka.

 

Kandy, KDZ.

A water-drome located in the religious city of Kandy.
