SriLankan Adds the First Brand New Aircraft in a Decade

SriLankan Airlines today added to its fleet the first brand new aircraft in ten years. The aircraft, An Airbus A320-200, is MSN4694 and registered 4R-ABM. The aircraft is powered by CFM56 engines ( whereas four of the airline’s present five A320s are powered by IAE V2500 engines ).

The new aircraft is part of a three aircraft A320 order the carrier has placed via the lessor Air Lease Corp.

The aircraft was ferried as UL1564 on TLS-KWI-CMB.

The aircraft is powered by a Panasonic eFX AVOD IFE system, with 9″ displays in Business Class and 7″ displays in Economy class.

None of UL’s previous A320s had IFE systems.

The last brand new aircraft the airline took delivery of was in June 2000, when an Airbus A330-200, 4R-ALF, was delivered to the airline. This particular aircraft later got destroyed, in July 2001, in a battle with terrorists.
