UPDATE: SriLankan has taken delivery of only ONE new A320 and they have omitted the registration 4R-ABI since the letter ‘I’ causes confusion with numericals and Roman digits.
SriLankan Airlines ( UL ) has taken delivery of two new A320s. 4R-ABI and 4R-ABJ.
4R-ABJ is MSN2564, VT-DKY previously and has been first flown in 2003. However no information on 4R-ABI is available at the moment. SriLankan now has four A320s in the mainline and three of these aircraft are operated daily.
I really doubt why would they need a new aircraft since all their A320 flights can be covered by three A320s, so there is a chance that this A320 might be wet-leased to Mihin Lanka ( MJ ).
4R-ABJ has been operated with 180 seats before, by “Simplify Deccan Airlines”. Not sure Sri Lankan is going to change the seat configuration.
Here are some more details about the aircraft 4R-ABJ/Pre-reg: VT-DKY:-
