Video of Interest : Hard Landing
Airliners.net member BN747 had noted the following video of a Korean Air Boeing 777-300 hard landing on YouTube. I thought this would be worth sharing.
Although it might look rather scary, this really is not a dramatically dangerous situation.
It looks as if the aircraft came with a bit of excess speed and the frequent crosswinds at Narita ( where this was filmed ) could have been a contributor. The resulting hard landing caused the bounces.
This video is also a showcase of how impressively engineered the Boeing 777, and especially its landing gear, are. If this was an MD11, chances are there for the situation to have turned out differently..
Noone should make this video a reason to avoid flying on Korean Air or the Boeing 777, for this incident is really nothing serious and quite normal ( and it in fact shows the capability of the aircraft ) .
Nevertheless, kudos to the crew for finally coming to a safe stop.
What do you think of the video ? May be the pilot friends out there can tell us was this PIO related ?
